The Federal
Telemedicine Update has nicely summarized some of
the health related provisions in the $388 Billion Fiscal Year (FY) 2005 Appropriations Bill:
HHS budget for FY 2005 to increase about 2.7% over FY 2004
The Office for the Advancement of
Telehealth received $3.9 million
in the FY 2005 budget
USDA’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine program
received a small increase over FY 2004
CDC budget will increase by $138 million from FY 2004 with an additional
$1.6 billion for antiterrorism efforts but the grant funding for hospitals will decrease
NIH budget for FY 2005 will increase by $575 million from a budget of $28
billion in FY 2004. NIH has plans to build a new biodefense research center
FDA budget for FY 2005 will increase by $76 million to $1.46
billion
The National Science Foundation budget for FY 2005 will decrease by $105
million from the FY 2004 budget figure of $5.5 billion
Appalachian Regional Commission’s budget for FY 2005 is $6.6
million
The NY based demonstration project “Informatics for Diabetes Education and
Telemedicine” effort received additional funding and was extended for four years
