Function: Participates in the coordination, development, and design of nursing clinical documentation systems, management information systems, and design of related education strategies.
Scope: Affects the design and application of nursing management information systems, the nursing clinical electronic patient care documentation system, nursing clinical research database, and development of related education programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Assures open communication with multidisciplinary care team. Gathers feedback and recommendations regarding Picis functionality.
2.Assesses system function on an ongoing basis in the context of changing operational and clinical needs with the goal of developing change and enhancement requests the meet the clinical needs of the areas.
3.Collaborates with the Picis technical team and maintains an effective partnership.
4.Participates in the application of principles of systems analysis and design process to define user current state, user needs, and desired user future state.
5.Utilizes clinical practice knowledge to guide data collection and design processes.
6.Employs clinical knowledge and system experience to guide ongoing development of the Picis system.
7.Actively considers the needs of clinical research and management decision-making when designing system changes and modifications.
8.Assures the active participation of end-users in the design of nursing systems.
9.Collaborates with members of the appropriate information systems project team(s) in the design of clinical documentation and other information systems.
10.Supports current workflow documentation and future workflow design.
11.Collaborates, consults with, and partners with the Nursing Professional Development and Education instructors in the design of training programs in response to new functionality or healthcare information/communication systems.
12. Monitors end-user use of systems, identifying coaching opportunities, and fosters effective and efficient use of systems. Identifies end-users learning needs regarding the features and benefits of systems.
13.Supports development of new policies or revision of existing policies in response to changes in documentation in the electronic medium.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:

EDUCATION:
Required:Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Preferred:Masters Degree in Informatics or Masters Degree in NursingInformatics certification
EXPERIENCE:
Required:Minimum of two years of acute-care nursing experience.
Preferred:Two years experience in systems analysis or similar role. Knowledge and experience in use of
electronic medical record systems and end-user needs and requirements for successful implementation. Knowledge of nursing, instructional design, adult learning principles, education, and training methodologies.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Required:Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN).
Preferred:Certification in Oncology or specialty practice area.
