Interesting article in a recent issue of e-Week regarding the use of open-source software to display and
manipulate medical images on iPods.* The software, called OsiriX was developed by radiologists and*the latest
version was just released.**Medical images require large data sets, making storing and transferring images
problematic. According to a bulletin of the Radiologic Society of North
America, a recent survey of OsiriX users found that* about a thousand people downloaded the software within
the first month of distribution. Co-developer,
Dr. Osman Ratib, indicated in the bulletin
that he*believes actual usage is about three to five times that number.
Free download is available at the OsiriX
website.
