According to Government Computer News, the Health and Human Services Department (HHS)*is requesting information about developing a nationwide verification system to provide the department with the professional qualifications of healthcare professionals responding to a disaster or public-health emergency. The motivation for the move stems from the September 11 terrorist attacks. On that day many healthcare professionals descended on New York City to help in the disaster. However, many were turned away because their qualifications and credentials could not be verified. HHS plans to develop a Web portal to provide access to the public and private data repositories that contain the qualifications of government medical incident officials. HHS posted a request for information posted yesterday on the Web at FedBizOpps.gov. *ReadPermalink*|*Email this*|*Linking*Blogs*|*Comments
