Post [telemedicine] Students Receive Personal Health Devices

Nursing and health information management students at the
College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota will be receiving their own
Personal Health Record, or PHR, devices. The main goal, according to*an article inthe*Duluth
News-Tribune, is to make students responsible for their own health care, but another hope*is that after
graduation the students will educate employers and patients about the devices and their potential.

According to the article, St. Scholastica is somehwhat of an innovator in the field of health information. The
college’s*ATHENS Project (Advancing Technology and Healthcare
Education) uses computer-based clinical simulations to improve students’ observations, treatments and record keeping.
The project is funded by a five-year, $1.8 million U.S. Department of Education grant. Additionally, St. Scholastica
is paying for the PHR project in part with a $10,000 Vision Grant from the
Minnesota Community Foundation.
