| Education related to technology is an ongoing concern for our agency. Initial training of a software system is historically performed by the Information Systems department. The problem exists in ownership and sustaining follow-up education once an install is complete. Are there any lessons learned that may provide some insight on how to work through this struggle? | Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role? No, but I've decided to move into the NI role. What I could use is the knowledge of which is the best graduate online school to get a Masters in NI. Currently I"m working in the Operating Room with 20plus years experience and ready to move into the next career option. Travel is a plus for me as I currently fly twice a week to my job out of state. |

| Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role? I would highly recommend getting your feet real wet in the clinical environment first. Then you can become a better analyst. One year of full time nursng should do it. Just my opinion. |

| Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role? Beachee: The University of Maryland and the University of Colorado have some of the best programs in informatics, at least that's what I heard from a professor at SLU in St. Louis. Maryland requires a minimum of three years clinical experience according to their website. Colorado's program is completely online. There's also some sort of AORN deal if you're a member, too. It may be worth checking out. I'm new here (BSN this year, 8 years of tech experience, 15 of general and international business), but I landed on this forum, courtesy of the Google Health Advisory article. I have been looking for something like this for a while. Hooray! Back to browsing.... |

| Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role? I'm about to start a position where for the first time I will be called a Nurse Informaticist. I have however worked many years in both computer science and nursing, and have dual degrees. I have somewhat combined them before such as working for a vendor in implementation planning and process, and for a hospital radiology department in general computer and database support. Now I need to learn MediTech and work in a small pediatric hospital. Any other MediTech users out there? Learning resources? |

I am currently an nurse analyst installing a McKesson product at out hospital. We are going live with nurse documentation and Beside Medication Verification (barcode scanning) next month. My background is Critical Care (20years), military nursing (retired) and general interest in PDAs in nursing (thus my moniker ) | |

| Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role? Happy New Year, All. I am working as a Product Support Analyst for a software company supporting an OR information system. I perform both Technical and Clinical support for the product. At this point, I am tossing around the idea of taking a Masters in either Healthcare or Nursing Informatics. I am an RN, but have only a Diploma from The Army Institute of Nursing. Not sure if worth it to have to take the BSN and then the MSN vs the MA in Healthcare Informatics. Jim |
