Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role?

I have 13 years of experience in the Computing World as programmer (6 yrs) , DBA (10) and Network/Sys Admin (3). I just graduated from nursing school last January and been trying to practice nursing once in a blue moon. I am interested in trying to move on to NI but I don't know where to start. Any recommendations?

Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role?

I work in a 9 physician practice and actually am working somewhat in a nurse informatic's role but I did not really know their was a title for it until I read a article in Health Data Management (SUPER ARTICLE). I am a LPN but I would like to go onto get the certification for Nurse Informatics. Does this require a RN-BSN?? I really do not know where to start. Any help would be greatly apprectiated-Teresa

Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role?

I'm interested in the field and would like to know how to enter this field.
I just graduated from nursing school and have 12 years experience as a programmer/analyst in a brokerage firm. I would like to combine my love for nursing and programming through nursing informatics.

I would appreciate any suggestion/guidance on how to be in NI field.

Thank you.

Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role?

Check with all the healthcare vendors: GE Healthcare, IBM, SAIC, IDX. DO a goodle or mosnter search for nursing informatics jobs. I learned nursing informatics "on the job" at SAIC. They want your "domain expertise" as a health care professional to design, test and train staff on clinical software applications. It is a HOT field. I loved it. I moved away from my clinical IT job and can't find anything remotely (bummer). There many jobs posted on the ned. Try Hospitalsoup.com for hospital jobs with clinical it. Money is great and so are the system/software headaches but I would never trade it back to bed side nursing..Be focues and persistent. If you don't mind travelling there are tons of jobs with medical device and pharmaceutical companies.

Re: Are you currently working in an informatics role?

Hi, I am currently working as an Application Specialist and ED Charge Nurse in our facility, as well as the Learning Plan Coordinator in our institution. We will be implementing this healthcare electronic-based system in 4 months time. I have been in this project for 2 1/2 years and very excited to implement the system after 2 1/2 years of designing and building it.
