National Alliance for Health Information Technology seeks definitions for health IT terms

From an article in Government Health IT:

Quote:
The National Alliance for Health Information Technology will launch next week a project to help eliminate confusion in the national discussion about health IT adoption by helping define health IT’s most commonly used – and misused – terms.

The industry-led Alliance is shepherding a five-month long project to define, vet and deliver to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONCHIT) consensus definitions for electronic health record (EHR), electronic medical record (EMR), personal health record (PHR), health information exchange (HIE) and regional health information organization (RHIO).
And more info from the National Allice for Health Information Technology definitions project web page:

Quote:
The National Alliance for Health Information Technology is leading an important effort for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) to develop consensus-based definitions for key health information technology terms.
The first set of terms will focus on creating and securing industry endorsement of definitions for electronic health record (EHR), electronic medical record (EMR), personal health record (PHR), health information exchange (HIE) and regional health information organization (RHIO).
A cacophony of competing and confusing definitions, with terms often used interchangeably, is impeding progress in health information technology. A common understanding and use of terms are essential for facilitating IT adoption and innovation and achieving a useful exchange of health information to improve patient outcomes.
The Alliance invites you to participate by contributing your expertise and insights to the Health Information Technology Terms Standardization Project.
