| Senior Nursing Informatics Specialist Senior Nursing Informatics Specialist SUMMARY Working collaboratively with the clinical departments and Information Technology, the Nursing Informatics Specialist-Senior participates in the design and implementation of clinical information systems as they apply to clinical practice. The Specialist participates in in-services and computer training of current and new clinical staff, students, and faculty. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Participates in the planning, development, implementation, upgrading, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical information systems. Activities may include data collection, cataloguing of gathered information, documentation of processes, and communication with members of IT and clinical services. 2. Participates in the process of revising and implementing changes in both automated and manual components of the clinical information systems. Responds appropriately and timely to requests and concerns from users or others affected by the systems. 3. Participates in efforts toward maintaining components of the clinical information systems, including revisions, testing system changes, and integration of changes into the clinical environment. 4. Accurately and promptly analyzes and prioritizes user needs and requests related to clinical information systems. Develops, documents, and leads processes for multi-disciplinary end-user input regarding clinical systems and processes. 5. Provides proactive user support including, but not limited to, training and education. Communicates training needs with members of the training team. Assists in the evaluation and development of training and in-service programs as required. 6. Maintains open communication among clinical user groups to determine issues or problem areas and facilitates resolutions. Coordinates and provides for communication among users, IT, nursing, and other clinical services. 7. Participates in system analysis and research related to current and proposed clinical information systems. 8. Accurately and promptly analyzes the impact of information technology in clinical work processes. Communicates issues/topics with team members, nursing leadership, and IT leadership. 9. Demonstrates understanding of maintaining security, confidentiality, and integrity of employee, patient, family, and other medical information. 10. Demonstrates that patient, visitor, and employee safety is a key and fundamental principle. 11. Maintains membership on, or consultation to, appropriate committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to facilitate the ongoing process of the design, implementation, and revision of automated and manual components of the clinical information systems. 12. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of: a. Current trends and issues in healthcare, nursing practice, healthcare informatics, and JCAHO Standards. b. Stanford policies and procedures as related to clinical practices and legal implications of clinical information systems. c. Clinical applications currently in use and their relationship to other Stanford information systems. d. Structure and hierarchy of Stanford Hospital and Clinics. 13. Participates in presentations and publications about clinical information systems at conferences and in journals as appropriate. Attends conferences and seminars as appropriate. 14. Maintains membership in organizations that enhance professional growth. Job Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse with current California license. BSN required; additional clinical and IT experience or plans to complete BSN within 12 months may be accepted in lieu of degree. Masters degree in nursing/allied field is desirable. Three years experience in clinical nursing; POE experience is desirable. Nursing Informatics degree and/or certification desired, but not required. Experience implementing electronic nursing documentation in an inpatient environment is preferred. Current working knowledge of IDX LastWord is highly desired. Experience with technical and clinical components of clinical information systems is desired. Knowledge of Stanford Hospital and Clinics nursing process and methods is highly preferred.
