Clinical Informatics Coach

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree;
  • Healthcare experience X 5 years;
  • Knowledge of PowerChart system;
  • Employee at NMH for at least one year;
  • Fundamental understanding of inpatient work and workflow of care providers;
  • Proven communication skills;
  • able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization;
  • Excellent presentation skills; written and oral;
  • Demonstrated leadership in change management.
  • Desired: RN, Pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • The CI Coach is an expert in PowerChart functionality and supports physicians and hospital staff in adaptation to and optimization of use of the Electronic Medical Record.
  • The CI Coach coordinates all coaching related to adaptation for new users, upgrades and enhanced functionality, teaches in the classroom and in the clinical setting, and problem solves issues related to user/technology interface.
  • The CI Coach is on-call 24X7 as the resource for clinicians with questions and/or issues that require investigation.
  • Demonstrates conceptual understanding and proficiency in use of the Cerner suite of applications; i.e. PowerChart, SurgiNet, First Net, INet, PharmNet, etc.
  • Accountable for clinician adaptation to and optimization of the documentation and ordering tools within the electronic medical record.
  • Knowledgeable regarding physician, nurse, and ancillary workflow in the hospital setting.
  • Plans and leads classroom training for clinicians on PowerChart applications.
  • Develops training materials (job aides, etc.) to facilitate adaptation and user understanding of functionality.
  • Prepares and implements coach support coverage schedules for new functionality go-lives.
  • Facilitates ongoing physician adoption of Provider Order Entry and physician documentation within the electronic system.
  • Serves as a resource for clinical staff to:
    • Problem solves PowerChart application and workflow issues and work through barriers to achieve results by collaborating effectively with users and the center for clinical informatics and information systems teams.
    • Identify gaps in user understanding and use of PowerChart and develop and implement educational strategies to improve.
    • Support unit staff in the implementation of PowerChart applications.
    • Provide downtime operations and system recovery support for all users.
    • Advocate use of electronic tools and applications to promote patient safety.
    • Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare delivery team, leadership, and the Center for Clinical Informatics team.
    • Takes call on weekends, evenings, and holidays to provide 24X7 availability of PowerChart coaching support for clinicians.
    • Works independently, manages time and prioritizes competing user demands.
    • Have the ability to identify appropriate measures and make necessary accommodations to meet the needs of population specific documentation.
    • One must evaluate and address patient population and patient specific variables, assessing if the technical/human interface is appropriate for achieving the desired therapeutic outcome.
    • Apply the patient specific variables to patient safety activities.
    • Note: Special consideration should be given to the requirements of the neonatal and geriatric populations.
    • Coaches will support implementation and ongoing development of expertise in use of the electronic medical record at NMH. Each year there are new users, new applications for current users, and ongoing initiatives around improving user skills, knowledge, and abilities in system use. AA/EOE.
