REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Director of Clinical Informatics will report to the Vice President Chief Information Officer (VPCIO) in the Information Technology department.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Clinical Informatics is a newly formed position in the information technology department. This position will report to the Vice President Chief Information Officer and be considered a successor to that role. He/She will facilitates the development and implementation of clinical process redesign and information flow as it relates to both the Health System’s EMR and a hosted Ambulatory EMR solution. He/She will assist in developing CIS/EMR strategic and tactical plans, including project proposals, budgets, implementation strategies, etc. The Director will develop plans and strategies for gaining physician acceptance and ongoing use of CIS/EMR. The Director will collaboratively develop Return-on-Investment (ROI) estimates for CIS/EMR projects and oversees implementation of CIS/EMR benefits realization processes. The Director of Clinical Informatics will facilitate development of CIS/EMR integration plans, strategies, and an overall applications architecture.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Director of Clinical Informatics must have a minimum of 8 years progressively more responsible CIS selection and implementation experience in areas such as clinical data repositories, electronic medical records, clinical documentation, computerized order entry / results reporting, and physician access systems. Experience with clinical systems software is required. Minimum of 5 years related management experience required. Accomplished team-oriented leader with demonstrated achievements in implementing CIS projects in a complex healthcare organization. Must possess strong skills in project management, business and clinical process redesign, written / verbal communication, physician relations, and customer satisfaction. Must be a skilled decision-maker that works proactively in a high stress environment. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Electronic Mail. Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Informatics, Nursing, Healthcare Information Systems, or related field required. Master’s Degree is strongly preferred.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists VPCIO and other members of the Information Technology Leadership Team in developing and maintaining IT Strategic and Tactical Plans, with particular emphasis on Clinical Information Systems (CIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Acts as the primary liaison between IT, Clinical Staff and Physician Staff to insure that CIS/EMR implementations are optimized based on clinical workflow redesign Develops plans and strategies for gaining physician acceptance and ongoing use of CIS/EMR. Collaboratively develops 1) Return-on-Investment (ROI) estimates for proposed CIS investments, and 2) plans and strategies for realizing CIS ROI including hard and soft dollar benefits. Oversees implementation of CIS ROI strategies and benefits realization processes. Designs, specifies, and helps implement CIS integration plans and strategies by working with vendors, staff, and customers. Develops and maintains an application system architecture for the enterprise. Helps evaluate impact of new IT products upon application system architecture. Assists in developing, reviewing, and implementing CIS policies and procedures. Helps assess and recommend improvements to various business and clinical operations, work processes, etc. Helps optimize use of existing and new CIS. Assists in educating health system and Information Technology Department staff on CIS capabilities. Actively participates in user groups and national meetings to build knowledge of successful clinical informatics practices. Completes special projects as assigned by VPCIO.

Understand hospitals and the importance of technology to improve patient care Customer focused and service oriented Flexible/easy to work with Proven management skills with a track record of mentoring and developing staff Enjoys teaching and education Proactive in bringing issues to the senior management team and other leaders, building consensus and delivering practical solutions Comfortable presenting to senior management, physicians and all levels of staff Experience leading complex advanced clinical information systems implementations Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills Sense of humor Fiscally responsible; experience developing and monitoring budgets Operational experience as a Director in a health system is preferred Previous consulting or project management experience with clinical healthcare information systems in a vendor or consulting environment a plus Bachelor’s degree preferably in Nursing, or other healthcare or business related field required , Masters degree is strongly preferred.
