Clinical Systems Analyst

POSITION: Clinical Systems Analyst

PURPOSE: Work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems, with all departments in the Information Systems division, and all other departments or groups, campus-wide, as necessary, in problem-solving issues related to clinical information systems. Coordinate aspects of planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of existing or new functionality related to clinical information systems. Clinical information systems support through participation in 24-hour on-call rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
  • A Bachelor's Degree and formal education as a Registered Nurse is required.
  • Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Nursing practices and principles typically gained through graduating from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensure/Certification requirement: Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a health care institution of similar size and complexity.
  • Participation in clinical information systems implementation cycle preferred (design team member, trainer, end-user).
  • Experience with word processing and spreadsheets.
Personal/Professional
  • Must be knowledgeable of new trends in clinical management and information systems, and be able to apply data processing technology for the clinical and physician services areas.
  • Self-starter with good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Works well alone and in a team environment.
Physical demands and/or other special requirements
  • Must be able to lift and support 50 pounds and carry over 50 feet.
JOB DUTIES:
  • Participate in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the automated CIS. These activities may include database building, programming, data collection and cataloguing of gathered information, documentation of the process, etc. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the process involved in these activities.
  • Collaborate with clinical information systems project manager(s) in evaluation of development efforts, in planning pilot and full implementations of new CIS features, and in processing user feedback and requests.
  • Maintain membership on, or consultation to, committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of the development, implementation, and revision of the CIS.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding and working knowledge of the current CIS, its functions and its relationship to other information systems within the enterprise.
  • Participate in the process of revising and implementing changes in both the automated and manual components of the CIS. Respond appropriately to requests and concerns from users or others affected by the system.
  • Implement and maintain clinical information systems security and confidentiality mechanisms in accordance with user and/or facility policies and procedures.
  • Provide proactive user support of the CIS including, but not limited to, training and education. Assist in evaluation and development of training and in-service programs.
  • Participate in systems analysis and research related to the CIS.
  • Maintain relationships with the [enterprise] Nursing and Clinical communities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of: current trends and issues in healthcare, nursing practice, healthcare informatics, national and state-wide standards and regulations, enterprise policies and procedures as related to clinical practice, and the legal implications of the CIS.
  • Participate in presentations and publications about the CIS at conferences and in journals as appropriate. Attend conferences and seminars as appropriate.
  • Maintain membership in organizations that enhance professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
