ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills,
Abilities, Education, and Experience)


1. Education (includes licenses or certifications): BSN or advanced Nursing
degree. Masters or PhD in Healthcare Informatics, Nursing Informatics, Medical
Informatics, or related field

2. Experience: A minimum of five years of direct patient care.

3. Other Qualifications: Proven ability to provide leadership, delegate,
coordinate and motivate staff and to evaluate performance. Must posses an
ability to travel throughout the corporation as well as to meetings and seminars
throughout the US.

4. Attendance: Regular attendance is a requirement of this position.

5. English Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

The Director of Nursing Informatics will lead the Alaska region in the
development of IT strategy to support nursing, and will then be accountable for
the successful implementation of the products and services in that strategy, and
will work with nursing executives to insure beneficial use of information
technology. The Director of Nursing Informatics will jointly develop clinical
systems strategy for PHS Alaska with the Regional CIO, Director of IS and IS
Medical Director. The Director will optimize the use of existing clinical
systems, for nurses, physicians, and other multidisciplinary care providers by
attending to the documentation needs of nurses, the technical aspects of the
hardware and software, and the information needs of clinicians. The Director of
Nursing Informatics will lead the ongoing development and implementation of
Horizon Clinical applications for the Alaska Region. In addition to
responsibilities in the Alaska Region, the Director of Nursing Informatics will
serve as a consultant to the Office of the CIO and the Office of the CNE for
nursing informatics issues.

Additionally, responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships
with customers, vendors and staff members. Team player who supports the
fundamentals of project management with a customer service focus and reflects
the Sisters of Providence mission and philosophy.

The Director of Nursing Informatics must have a strong technical and clinical
background to be effective in both Nursing and Information Systems, but he or
she must also be able to gain the confidence of the staff nurses and convince
them that their information systems leader understands the daily challenges
nurses face. Clinical credibility is crucial. Leadership in other nursing
information systems, such as critical care monitoring systems and nurse staffing
systems, may also become a part of this position. To develop a cohesive
strategic plan for clinical information systems at Providence Health System, the
Director of Nursing Informatics will work closely with each of the nursing
departments in a highly matrixed organization and with the IS Medical Director
to coordinate the use of the clinical systems by the physicians.
