[telemedicine] Nebraska Develops Statewide Telehealth Network

Governor Mike Johanns announced that Nebraska is now able to connect state health officials
with more than 40 hospitals, but eventually 80 hospitals, 20 local public health departments, state and regional
public health labs, and key state agencies throughout Nebraska will be connected. From the Federal Telemedicine
Update:

Interactive video conferencing will be used to respond to emergencies and enable citizens to access health
specialists without leaving their home towns. The goal is to connect every hospital in the state by mid 2005 and all
endpoints by 2006.

Nebraska is not the first state to develop a telehealth network, however, Nebraska’s network is expected to
involve more endpoints and will eventually link 120 endpoints though telephonic or fiber optic connections that will
enable point-to-point and multi-point video communications.
