Cerner Corporation plans to open a ‘no-wait’ clinic feasturing the company’s latest
technologyat its North Kansas City headquarters next summer. From the Business Journal of Kansas City:


Instead of flipping through year-old issues of Golf Digest, patients will work until an e-mail or pager alerts them
that the doctor is ready. They will go directly to the exam room and, if necessary, to the on-site pharmacy. All
paperwork will be handled electronically, and the company’s insurance plan will pay claims the day the service is
delivered.

Welcome to what Cerner calls a “frictionless” clinic and, if Cerner has its way, one component of a coming
transformation in the delivery of health care. “We’re viewing this as the clinic of the future,” said Julie Wilson,
Cerner’s chief people officer. “Ours will not be a traditional approach.”

The clinic is Cerner’s attempt to show that many administrative costs — estimated to be nearly 30 percent of the
health care tab — can be eliminated by improving efficiency and quality of care, courtesy of Cerner technology.
Indeed, it is building the clinic with the expectation that it could franchise the concept.
