According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the
University of Rochester Medical Center’s Health-e-Access program, a
telemedicine program for children which utilizes*video teleconferencing, has received $2 million to expand its
reach.


The program will expand this year from seven sites in the city to 22 schools and day care centers in Rochester,
Brighton, East Rochester, Fairport, Penfield and Pittsford.


Parents must first sign their children up*with the school or day care center to be able to use the service. If
a child becomes ill during the day, the parents are called to see whether they want to pick*up the child or
have*the child*see a pediatrician through Health-e-Access.


The University of Rochester Medical Center*received $1 million in grants to start the program in 2001. A new
grant of $2 million from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the
Maternal and Child Health Bureau will support this expansion.
