[medinformatics] $50M Grant Means EMRs for Massachusetts Providers

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has pledged $50 million as the initial segment of a
grant targeted at promoting the use of electronic medical records statewide.


As part of a three-year trial, Brockton Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center in the Brockton region, Anna
Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, and North Adams Regional Hospital will*permit the installation of software that
lets them share medical records, physician orders and other information through a unified computer system. Associated
physician offices, imaging centers and laboratories in each of the three areas will also ultimately participate.


A new nonprofit, the
Massachusetts
eHealth Collaborative, will administer the program. The group represents 34 hospitals, insurers, state officials
and other health care providers.
