Minnesota's RxConnect Web site will now allow customers to order drugs through two British pharmacies in addition to four in Canada. Minnesota was the first to set up a state-sponsored site for Canadian drugs in January 2004.Governor Tim Pawlenty said he wanted to ensure that residents would have a ready supply of low-cost medications if pharmaceutical companies or the Canadian government shut down the Canadian Internet trade.Governments in both Canada and Britain control prescription drug prices, making most brand-name medications cheaper in those countries than in the United States. According to the Brainerd Dispatch, RxConnect customers will buy British drugs online through two Canadian pharmacies, which will forward the orders to two U.K. pharmacies. British doctors will sign off on the prescriptions, and the pharmacies will ship drugs directly to Minnesota customers.
