The Senate Appropriations Committee has passed a spending bill that slashes the fiscal 2006 budget for the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Information Technology from the requested $75 million to $45.2 million. President Bush’s $50 million request for the Agency*for Healthcare Research and Quality was spared.In June, the House passed its version of the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies bill approving the president’s $125 million health IT budget, including the $75 million request for the national health IT coordinator’s office and $50 million for the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality.
