[telemedicine] AHRQ Grants $1.5 Million to University of Utah for Wireless Study

The University of Utah has received a $1.5
million*grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to
study wireless technology. The University will use the grant to conduct a randomized trial to examine how Utah’s
rural doctors can benefit from using wireless electronic technology in their medical practices.
HealthInsight, and CaduRx, both Utah
companies are partners in the trial. From the Federal Telemedicine Update:



The three year Health Information Technology grant enables Matthew Samore, M.D., Professor of Internal Medicine at
the School of Medicine to give rural Utah doctors PDAs to use in their practices, that will enable the physicians to
electronically enter prescription orders, see results of lab work, radiology tests, and will give the doctors access to
medical databases to support their medical decisions.
