Post [medinformatics] Newfoundland implements health database

Canada begins her quest to have a national "Unique Personal Identifier and Client Registry" by testing the system in Newfoundland and Labrador, thanks largely to Mike Barron. The system is being used in all hospitals and health offices to track the National Medical Care Plan, and is earning rave reviews by users, who praise its ease of use.* The system will improve the accuracy of information, reduce redundancies, and revolutionize the information sharing process. All of the Canadian provinces are following suit, with the Newfoundland system as the model EHR (Electronic Health Registry). While the system has obvious merits, I wonder how Canadians feel about the fact that registration is required.* I think it would be difficult to convince Americans that such a system, if made mandatory, would be worth losing the freedom to choose whether or not to register.*ReadPermalink*|*Email this*|*Linking*Blogs*|*Comments
