| Call for Abstracts: Critical Issues in eHealth Research Another "heads up" from Dr. Carol Bickford on a presentation opportunity: Quote:
Subject: Call for Abstracts for eHealth Research Conference
From: "Carol Bickford"
Date: Tue, April 25, 2006 1:27 pm
A colleague alerted me to this announcement calling for abstracts for
the September 11-12, 2006 "Critical Issues in eHealth Research
Conference" to be held at the Bethesda Hyatt Regency, Bethesda, Maryland
Abstracts are being sought for the 2nd annual Scientific Conference
entitled "Critical Issues in eHealth Research Conference: Toward Quality
Patient-Centered Care."
Sponsors include: various organizations at the Department Health and
Human Services in collaboration with the American Medical Informatics
Association, and the Health e-Technologies Initiative (a national
program office of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). HHS co-sponsors
include the National Institutes of Health (NCI, NIDA, NLM, OBSSR, ODP),
the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Office of
Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
The conference will convene scientists from government, academia, survey
research and the private sector, practitioners from the private and
public sectors, and students to discuss the methodological,
technological, and conceptual aspects of research on patient-centered
care and e-health.
The conference seeks to highlight those research projects that
demonstrate excellence in addressing the methodological, conceptual, and
evaluation issues in eHealth research, connective information
technology, and patient-centered care. Research that evaluates
individual e-health tools will be considered if the project demonstrates
a high-degree of scientific rigor and/or provides new information about
the research and evaluation issues raised by investigation of e-health
and patient-centered care. All submissions will be peer-reviewed and may
be accepted for either an oral presentation or a poster presentation.
New researchers and junior faculty are encouraged to submit abstracts.
Abstracts that address issues of population diversity, health literacy
improvement, health disparities, and minority health are particularly
encouraged.
All abstracts must be submitted electronically no later than midnight
EST on June 12, 2006 (Monday). You will be notified of the outcome
(acceptance or rejection) by July 31, 2006 (Monday). Abstract
submissions should be NO LONGER THAN 300 words (not including name and
affiliation).
Please follow the instructions below to submit an abstract for
consideration.
Submit abstracts online at: https://www.ehealth-abstracts.com
* The abstract should include the following headings: "Background", "Methods", "Results", and "Conclusions". Please use these
headings in the abstract.
* List the names, degree(s), and institutional affiliation(s) of all authors in order of their contribution to the presentation or
research.
* Be sure that your abstract is as detailed as possible to aid in the review process.
Please indicate whether you would like your abstract to be considered
for either an oral presentation or a poster presentation. The program
committee reserves the right to accept abstracts as posters and/or oral
presentations.
Sample topics include but are not limited to:
* Methodological issues of using technology to research underserved patients (and their families) and to reduce health
disparities.
* Research examining the formative evaluation, reliability and/or acceptability of personal health records, online consumer health
resources and information, decision support tools, or information systems involved in patient self-care.
* Methodological issues related to information sharing between healthcare organizations or providers (i.e. care coordination), electronic health records, pre-visit assessment and health profiles.
* Research design issues in evaluating disease management tools, provider-patient e-mail, tools for population health management, and
telephone-based triage and assistance.
* Scientific evaluation issues related to online access to organizational and provider performance and cost data.
* Statistical issues in analyzing longitudinal and/or time-intensive health data on patients and their informal caregivers
gathered with electronic tools.
* Methodological opportunities and challenges of linking remotely collected health data with established clinical databases.
* Research examining how information systems support quality measurement
* Scientific issues dealing with how needs assessments can be incorporated into design and evaluation of eHealth systems.
* Methodological issues related to the incorporation of patients' behavioral and communication information with medical or clinical
information using technology.
POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS
For abstract submissions selected for paper presentations, primary
authors will be asked to submit an electronic copy of the PowerPoint
Presentation(s) by Friday, September 1, 2006. Details about sending
PowerPoints will be included in acceptance notification information.
All presenters, oral and poster, must register for the conference.
