Impact of Health Information Technology on Nurses
In 2005 the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community (HIMSS-NI) developed a survey to explore the impact of health information technology (HIT) on the role of nurses and interdisciplinary communication in acute care (inpatient, hospital) settings. This workshop brings this work to the international community. Engage with the researchers to identify and find strategies to address barriers to technology adoption.

Informatics Basics
Informatics is still a mystery to some nurses and health workers. This workshop will demystify this discipline and provide participants with some of the building blocks and an over view of the area. It will enable beginners or the curious to participate actively in the next two days of the conference (and for ever afterwards).

Nursing Informatics for practitioners
Increasingly practitioners must be effective efficient users of technology in their workplace. As information systems become ubiquitous, they are also becoming a basic tool of practice. This workshop will provide you with skills, strategies, tips and others experiences to help you to use technology to its fullest in your workplace.

Nursing Informatics Education
An enduring problem in Informatics is that few nurses have been educated in its use. How do we provide education and build capacity in the nursing workforce. The discussion, the strategies and the experiences of the international community are invaluable. This workshop will provide a robust forum for nurses to debate and learn from others facing the same problems.

Using Technology in Education
How do we use and derive value from Wiki’s Blogs Podcasts you might ask? Come and workshop with the experts. This workshop will provide participants with the understanding, skills and enthusiasm to use these strategies in education whether it be for students or consumers.

Nursing Language
No don’t glaze over; this is one of the most enduring challenges in nursing. How do we communicate with each other if we all use different terms? Well let’s find out. This workshop is your window to this fundamental area of informatics. The experts will guide discussion on the ‘what’ of language and ‘how’ of managing concept representation. This workshop will tackle the issues and challenges to be faced as we move swiftly to an electronic environment. This will provide a basis, an understanding and skills for further exploration and engagement with the language community.

Nursing and Electronic Health Records
They are now a reality. What are they, what do they mean for nursing, what are Nursing’s needs and how do we ensure these? In this workshop you will engage with the experts will grapple with the issues central to the development and use of Electronic Health Records in nursing. You will gain an understanding of the wider concept of electronic records, the issues involved in their development and relevance to the healthcare.
