Call for Applicants for Fall 2008
Duke University School of Nursing and Duke Health Technology Solutions announce a competitive Information Technology Fellowship focusing on IT solutions to the safety and quality challenges in health care. The Fellowship will fund a student for full time study in the PhD Program in Nursing. While earning the PhD, the Fellow will be mentored by faculty to conduct research focused on integrating computing/information capabilities and expertise into clinical practice, with an emphasis on patient safety and clinical quality. Of particular interest in this fellowship is creating a positive work environment and “learning culture” in which practitioners can share "lessons learned" in an effort to mitigate risk, prevent harm to patients and improve quality of care. The student will focus on technology solutions to overcome current barriers in health care in areas such as standards, workflow, privacy issues, engaging consumers, data-sharing,
interoperability, and improvement of health care delivery. The student will utilize IT systems for the purpose of identifying problematic areas, and proposing and testing intervention strategies to health care safety and quality.
