Ambulatory Nursing Informatics Lead

San Diego, California

UCSD Healthcare has an excellent full-time, benefited opportunity in its Ambulatory Operations department for an experienced Ambulatory Nursing Informatics Lead. Working in concert with a dedicated project team and software vendor (Epic Systems of Madison, WI), the successful candidate will serve as the primary nursing resource supporting the development and implementation of an ambulatory electronic medical record system in all outpatient settings across UCD Healthcare.



Specifically, the incumbent will:

• Participate in and guide the design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the EpicCare Ambulatory EMR System.

• Coordinate and lead end-user training.

• Review software, analyze business and clinical operations, and work with end-users, internal project teams, and Epic implementers to tailor the system to UCSD Healthcare needs.

• Help develop change-management strategies to support clinic workflow and process redesign associated with the EMR implementation, acting as a liaison to the ambulatory nursing community and ambulatory clinic staff.

• Communicate work and project status to the EMR project manager and team members.

• Work with internal project teams across many functional areas.

• Help design the research and quality-assurance database as well as oversee analysts responsible for maintaining that database.

• Act as a liaison to nursing documentation efforts in the inpatient arena and, along with the Director of Inpatient Nursing Informatics, ensure clinical coherence of the medical record across UCSD Healthcare.

• Serve as an active member of clinical committees across UCSD Healthcare, such as the Medical Records Oversight Committee and EMR advisory groups.



Qualifications for this key position include:

• Experience managing complex, multifaceted projects.

• A clinical background in ambulatory care, preferably at the nursing management level.

• Clinical software implementation experience, preferably with Epic Systems, Inc.

• Demonstrated knowledge of ambulatory clinical workflows and the ability to incorporate that understanding into the design and implementation of clinical applications.

• Demonstrated ability to independently create test scenarios and test scripts, as well as execute testing in an integrated environment while incorporating quality management concepts.

• Strong teaching skills and experience performing super-user and general enduser training.

• Demonstrated ability to self-manage based on assigned tasks and to assume full ownership of overall outcomes.

• Demonstrated comfort in facilitating group projects towards successful completion of goals and proven ability to lead staff in accomplishing goals by identified deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to independently and professionally conduct meetings, both formal and informal, including major departmental meetings and user meetings.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Team orientation with strong interpersonal skills

• Willingness to join an innovative, highly committed project team.



Preferred candidates will also have experience in extracting quality measures from large clinical databases.
