Mental Health Strategies is a long established mental health management consultancy. We specialise in working alongside all providers and commissioners of mental health care, including health and social care agencies and the voluntary sector. Our work includes areas such as developing national strategy, reviewing local provision and providing specialist advice on mental health law and ethics, informatics, finance, modernisation and equality and diversity.

We have an excellent track record in mental health and social care informatics gained over many years. We are currently working with mental health trusts on their NPfIT agendas as well as developing innovative informatics solutions in our sister company Offender Healthcare Strategies. We believe in the need for clinical "buy in" to informatics and seek, where possible, consultants from a clinical background to join our team.

As part of the Niche Healthcare Consulting consultancy group, Mental Health Strategies can also draw on the expertise and experience of colleagues from a wide range of health and social care settings.

Role description

the Principal Informatics Consultant will:

take overall responsibility for the development and leadership of a specialist work stream within Mental Health Strategies;
lead the identification and generation of sales opportunities within mental health informatics;
lead the development of project proposals and protocols by Directors and colleagues;
contribute to the general development of the business by:
supporting development of relevant work streams;
contributing as required to the development of matters of company policy;
participation in in-house meetings, workshops, and business development events;
managing responsibly and efficiently the postholder's own time committed to projects, and company property and equipment;
ensuring Directors and colleagues are kept informed as to issues of importance arising within the sphere of responsibility; and
contributing to the overall team in providing consultancy advice to clients within project frameworks devised principally by Directors and colleagues.
Role requirements

Degree or equivalent qualification;
substantial experience of the mental and / or social healthcare gained in a clinical environment
environment and familiarity with the key issues facing England's mental health services;
motivation to work with mental health and related services;
motivation to undertake commercial consultancy;
ability to work within a small team and on own initiative; and
ability to work regularly from a Manchester base but travel UK-wide.
We are also looking for informatics consultants at Consultant and Senior Consultant level.
