DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL INFORMATICS

A leader in inner city health, as well as a major tertiary referral centre, St. Michael's Hospital has over 550 inpatient beds, extensive outpatient clinics, and is downtown Toronto's designated trauma centre for adults. The hospital is recognized for excellence in teaching, and is a research leader in many areas including inner city health, cardiac gene therapy, and trauma/critical care. The Hospital is seeking an appropriately prepared nurse or other health professional with substantial clinical informatics experience to serve as Director of Clinical Informatics reporting to the Executive Vice President, Programs and Chief Nursing Executive.

This new position will lead a staff of clinical informatics professionals, working in collaboration with physicians, nurses, other health professionals and I.T. professionals, in the implementation of new clinical information systems to support professional practice, optimize clinical workflow, and foster continuous improvement in the utility and functionality of clinical systems. A key role will be to facilitate communication between health and IT professionals and to translate advances in clinical informatics and information management into improvements in clinical care and professional practice.

The successful candidate will be a registered nurse or other regulated health professional with a Master’s degree in informatics or a related field. Significant clinical informatics experience, in a complex and preferably teaching hospital setting is essential and previous management and clinical system implementation experience would be considered assets.
