9 NISS's needed to support the following clinical systems: Perioperative (4), CPOE (3), Obstetrics (1), Critical care/med-surg (1)

Job Requirements:
There are 3 levels of NISS. Minimum 5 years of clinical experience. Information management experience required ranges from 1- 6 years depending on level.

Duke University Health System, a progressive facility located in the heart of North Carolina, currently seeking experienced clinical nurses with informatics experience to join its Health Technology Solutions Division.


Primary role:
The Nursing Information System Specialist has advanced knowledge and proven application of that knowledge within a specific clinical discipline. The NISS has a basic knowledge of the functions and applications of clinical information systems.

Essential tasks/responsibilities:
Interprets, modifies, analyzes and designs clinical systems, data, and information with supervision.

Implements applications, tools, processes and structures that assist clinicians with the management of data in patient care and provision of health care.

Provides systems support including hardware maintenance, trouble shooting, component replacement and repair, system monitoring and the installation and maintenance of software.

Participates in planning and teaching of customer training sessions.

Assists in making oral and written presentations to project teams and management.

Completes moderately complex tasks and portions of larger clinical information system projects with direction.

Identifies internal resources to build project team performance.

Updates system, operational and department documentation.

Recommends areas for process improvement.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training:
Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors in Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. Licensure as a registered nurse in North Carolina.

Experience Required:
Work requires five years of clinical nursing experience to include at least one year of computer experience. An associates degree in mathematics or computer science combined with at least one year of clinical nursing experience may be substituted for the above; OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
