| Duke University School of Nursing Announces IT Fellowship Information Technology Fellowship for PhD Students Announced by Duke University School of Nursing andDuke Health Technology Solutions November, 2006 Duke University School of Nursing and Duke Health Technology Solutions join to announce a competitive Information Technology Fellowship in the area of patient safety and quality. The Fellowship will fund a student for full time study in the PhD Program in Nursing. While earning the PhD, the Fellow will be mentored by faculty to conduct research focused on integrating computing/information capabilities and expertise into clinical practice, with an emphasis on patient safety and clinical quality. Of particular interest in this fellowship is creating a positive work environment and “learning culture” in which practitioners can share "lessons learned" in an effort to mitigate risk and prevent harm to patients. The student will utilize IT systems such as CPOE, automated surveillance and a computerized voluntary reporting system, for the purpose of identifying potential sources of medical errors, proposing and testing intervention strategies to mitigate the occurrence of adverse events. The PhD Program in Nursing offers rigorous preparation to nurses intending to enter roles in academic nursing, conduct nursing research in the broad area of Trajectories of Chronic Illness and Care Systems Fellowship support: Three years tuition, fees, health insurance, and market competitive stipend Application Deadline: December 15, 2006 is the deadline for opening an application.
